Thursday, March 6, 6 - 7:30 pm
Facilitator: Lisa Newman, MSW MHSc
Wellspring Westerkirk House at Sunnybrook
Lisa Newman is a social worker with over thirty years’ experience in the
Ontario health care system, as a clinician, supervisor, and manager. Lisa
has consulted to both hospitals and healthcare organizations, to improve
patient care. In addition Lisa serves as a psychotherapist in private practice.
But becoming a consumer of health care, when her husband became a
cancer patient, made her realize that all her experience still left her with
an awful lot to learn about what it actually feels like to be a patient or a
caregiver. Her book describes how her professional experience took on
new meaning and how much she learned, accompanying her husband on
his cancer journey. Fortunately, her many years’ experience as a health care
professional did help her navigate the journey along with him and she is
glad to share many practical tips for other caregivers.
People dealing with cancer, family members and caregivers will all beneft from this session, where you will learn
tips on how to advocate with health care providers, how to get their help and engage them as part of your ‘team’.
Tips will be offered on everything from setting up your own web page (why and how to do it), to organizing your
own medical records, to making the most of volunteer help that is offered and much more.
Bring your own particular questions and issues for discussion.
To register, please contact Wellspring Westerkirk House at 416.480.4440.
